Silent & safe with Alara-Lukagro’s sound-absorbing louvres

15.09.2022
Sound-absorbing louvres are widely used in high-rise buildings. But how safe are these? Alara-Lukagro passed the safety test with flying colours.

AL-R louvres successfully tested for safety against falling through

For several years now, we have seen a positive trend in the use of sound-absorbing louvres in high-rise buildings. The reason for this is the housing shortage, which is leading to building closer to railways and motorways. With the application of the louvres at height, it is also necessary that an unfortunate fall against a louvre does not pose a fall risk. In order to prove that even the lightest AL-louvre meets all safety requirements, it was tested by an independent research institute (SKG-IKOB).

The test is an impact test with a kind of box ball that is thrown against the louvre. The impact has a kinetic energy of 500 Joule. This test is done three times at different points of the same louvre.

In May 2022, SKG-IKOB released the final report, confirming that the louvre had successfully passed the test. By testing an AL-R150 in aluminium, other types of louvres automatically pass the test as well. All variants and possible sizes are available in the report. This test opens up new possibilities and clearly demonstrates the quality of our louvres.

Projects

Alara-Lukagro louvres are widely used in projects such as Crossroads (see picture). For this project, Alara-Lukagro received a fantastic order for the delivery of 194 aluminium AL-R louvres.

Crossroads is located next to the Amsterdam Sloterdijk train station and includes the realization of two residential towers. A residential tower of approximately 90 meters on the west side of the station and a residential complex of approximately 45 meters on the east side. The residential towers are connected by means of a commercial plinth under the railway viaduct.
