IPCOM moves for charity – From Ghent’s streets to Himalayan Peaks
Running for Change: Gent Urban Trail
On Sunday, October 19, IPCOM colleagues laced up their running shoes for the Gent Urban Trail, a scenic run through the heart of Ghent. With routes winding through historic buildings and cobbled streets, the event was more than a race, it was a celebration of community and purpose.
This year’s run supported Plan International Belgium, helping empower girls in Senegal through education and sport. IPCOM’s FITCOM team trained together in the lead-up while the supporters gathered at Kapitein Zeppospark, cheering on runners as they tackled 8 km and 13 km routes.
Climbing for a Cause: Alan Shand’s Everest Challenge
Meanwhile, across continents, Alan Shand, Business Development Manager at Insulcon Technical, is preparing for a return to Everest Base Camp (5364m). After braving Nepal’s worst weather in decades and managing diabetes at altitude last year, Alan and his partner Nicola are back for more.
This time, they’re adding:
- Gokyo Lake (5483m)
- Kala Patthar (5545m)
- Island Peak (6165m)
Their self-funded expedition supports Cancer Research UK, continuing a legacy of fundraising that has already raised thousands of pounds.
Alan began his climb on 13 October and will return on 5 November. As we speak, he’s tackling the heights of the Himalayas for an incredible cause.
Marching Forward Together
Both initiatives are part of IPCOM’s “Marching Forward Together” campaign, which challenges all local companies within the group to support charitable causes in their own way. Whether through running, trekking, or community clean-ups, IPCOM teams are competing for the Team Trophy, awarded to the most impactful and creative action of the year. Q4 has just begun, and if you haven’t kicked off your initiatives yet, now’s the time to get moving!
If you have a charity initiative to highlight, send it to communication@ipcom.be—let’s keep the momentum going.
